I’ve been waking up early each morning with the print edition of This Is the Day™: 40-Day Devotionals for New Beginnings, and it’s become a steady companion in my personal, quiet time with the Lord. As a pastor, I read a lot of devotionals, but this one carries a depth and balance that truly stand out and that I’ve honestly never seen before. It’s very rich with Scripture, teaching, and clarity, yet never so dense that it loses the reader. Every entry offers something solid to hold onto—truth, encouragement, and life application that meets you right where you are.
Before I wrote this review, I told myself I would wait at least a week into my reading before sharing anything publicly. But the truth is, from the very first time I opened the book—in both formats—it was hard for me to put it down. Now, I pace myself. I let the words marinate. I linger and pause when something hits my heart. And that’s not out of any bias because the author–publisher, designer, and editor is my lovely wife—it’s out of honest engagement, excellent quality, and the biblical and practical depth that’s in every page.
I intentionally didn’t read the full manuscript before publication because I wanted to experience it the way any reader would. And I’m grateful I waited. This devotional has been and is a blessing to me—grounding, biblically sound, and full of the kind of steady encouragement people need when entering any kind of new beginning, change, or transition.
What moves me most is how Brittany’s gifts come together in such a unique way. Her teaching, her poetic writing style, her descriptive imagery, her musical background, her deep insight and wisdom, and her skills from psychology and Christian counseling all blend into something deeply warm, personable, beautiful, harmonious, and deeply original. I also noticed moments of intentional repetition—not redundancy—but the kind of purposeful repetition and echoing you see throughout Scripture. It’s used here for teaching, understanding, and clarity, helping certain truths settle more deeply as you read. There’s a clarity here—a way of explaining Scripture that feels both fresh and familiar, comforting and challenging, gentle and strong. It ministers to me personally, and I’m still reading it. I look forward to continuing this first round and returning to it again in the future.
I strongly suggest that anyone who wants deeper understanding, clarity, and a new or more grounded walk with the Lord should read this devotional. It’s a foundational, clarifying supplement for personal spiritual growth, and it’s also a wonderful resource for anyone—from any background—who wants to understand Scripture accurately, thematically, and with practical wisdom. It’s evident to me that this book was written with every person, every day, and every season in mind in a graceful and invitational way. The New Beginnings theme speaks to so many areas of life. It would make a powerful guide for small groups, Bible studies, or fellowship gatherings of any kind.
I’m thankful to have this in print. It’s a devotional I’ll be returning to again and again!
